H.I.S. BridgeBuilders
H.I.S. (Hope in Salvation) BridgeBuilders is a faith-based, multiracial/cultural organization that exists to help break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness by providing hope through salvation and providing skills for life and employment. The ministry’s goal is to be obedient to Scripture, enabling
people from all segments of society to enrich
their lives and transform their cities for Christ.
H.I.S. BridgeBuilders marshals the efforts of churches, volunteers, private enterprises, and government offices to attack the root of poverty—attitudes of hopelessness and helplessness. This is accomplished through a careful mix of education, mentoring, coaching, encouragement, accountability, and caring for the physical needs of people.
H.I.S. BridgeBuilders has three program areas: encouragement, education, and employment.
- Encouragement – The base of this program consists of teams providing weekly support for those in our ministry. We also provide monthly events and periodic special events for the community.
- Education – Our education program provides training for participants to receive a GED and continue into college. We support the GED courses and college entrance courses with computer classes, life-skills classes, and tutoring.
- Employment – Our employment program currently includes an eye clinic and lens lab. These not only offer a valuable service to the community, but also provide skills for residents who are trained in the lab and various positions in the clinic.
"Sympathy is no substitute for action."
—David Livingstone
Currently, H.I.S. BridgeBuilders is addressing the needs of residents in three Dallas public housing locations: Turner Courts, Rhodes Terrace, and Cedar Springs. We have encouragement teams in each of these areas and hold regular special events. Education programs are held in the Turner Courts Multi-Purpose Center, and a dental clinic is also in place in that community. An eye clinic and lens lab are located in the Cedar Springs community.
