Literacy Missions

Prestonwood Literacy Missions is reaching the nations right here in Plano by teaching conversational English as a Second Language (ESL) to those with limited English, providing a wonderful way to share the love of Jesus Christ and the life-changing  message of the Gospel with people who have come from all over the world.  In addition to the language lessons, each student learns important cultural skills.  Bibles are provided in each student’s native language, and devotionals and prayer are a part of every lesson.  ESL classes are held three times a week at Prestonwood and weekly through our Apartment Church ministry.

The Literacy Ministry also reaches out to those who want to become United States citizens by teaching weekly citizenship classes here at Prestonwood, conducted in simple English.  Each class provides opportunities to give out Bibles and devotionals.

As a new addition to Prestonwood Literacy Missions, Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) classes are offered each week as well.  These classes teach conversational Spanish with an emphasis on how to share the Gospel in that language.

Volunteers are needed in each of these areas to teach, assist, or register adults for these classes.  Fluency in another language is not required, with the exception of SSL volunteers, who should speak Spanish.
